Toni Kay-Wolff is committed to teaching others how to enjoy their dogs and puppies in a way that is safe, fun, and rewarding for all dogs and their families. Toni's goal is to provide quick, effective and fun training techniques, utilizing a variety of approaches based on the needs of the dogs and their owners. Her primary interest is in making training "user-friendly" so that training becomes something you do with your dog, not to your dog. Coaching you to train your dog is her joy, and passing along to you that joy for living with your puppies and dogs is Toni's most satisfying accomplishment.
After meeting and working with world-renown master trainer Brian Kilcommons at the tender age of 13, Toni realized the potential for building trust and relationships with dogs. Toni's natural ability and love for dogs led her to follow her heart and help open the hearts of thousands of people, adults and children alike, to the possibility and potential of living harmoniously and contentedly with their dogs.
Toni received her B.S. in Animal Science in 1983 and worked as a veterinary assistant in various small and large animal practices from Kentucky to New York. She formally apprenticed with Brian Kilcommons and his wife Sarah Wilson at The Family Dog, the largest indoor training center in NYC, for four years before founding her own dog training and boarding companies in 1992. She continues to work with Brian and Sarah on shelter projects around the U.S.

As guest speaker at events like the American Cancer Society Dog Walks, instructing for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and appearances on respected national programs like Prime Time Live, 20/20 and Good Morning America, Toni loves sharing her knowledge and passion for dogs. She gets to do that for people around the world as a moderator on Sarah Wilson’s Family Dog website, the number one source and community for dog and cat lovers on the net.
The Well-Mannered Dog, Inc. serves areas of Connecticut, NYC, Westchester and Long Island, with clients coming to see Toni from all parts of the tri-state area. Programs include private in-home instruction, small group training classes offering companion dog training and manners at all levels, Puppy Kindergarten and socialization classes, and the prevention and solving of behavior problems. Additional services include breed, puppy and breeder selection, shelter dog selection and counseling, and assistance in finding homes for dogs in need.
Always searching for ways to increase her knowledge, skills and teaching abilities, Toni's on-going professional training includes certification in behavioral studies at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine, various seminars with such renowned experts like John Fischer, Sue Sternberg, Pia Silvani, Martin Deely and many others.
Toni is a member in good standing of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Among her many accomplishments, Toni was the dog training expert for The Family Pet, a popular Long Island based Cable News 12 program for 10 years, was co-founder and Director of Training for The Shelter Connection, based in Port Washington, NY, lead trainer for The Family Dog Shelter Dog Training Program at NYC Animal Care and Control as well as at Peggy Adams Animal Shelter in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is an evaluator/Tester for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test.
